An English Country House

Landscape painting of an old hall seen across a paddock, with two horses grazing in the field.

‘Maer Hall’ Maer Staffordshire

Oil on canvas 24 x 36 ins

Commissioned painting.

Commissioned by the present owners.

Maer Hall was once owned by Josiah Wedgwood II, the son of the potter who founded  the world famous Wedgwood company.

Charles Darwin, the father of evolution, often used to visit Maer and went on to marry Wedgwood’s daughter Emma, in St Peters church in the village of Maer.

I painted this at the end of a very hot summer, when the paddock and banks and lawns to the hall were scorched by the sun.
