All of my still life work is done in my studio, where I can stage manage objects and move things around in my house. In this case I used a shelf above an old Victorian range in an old scullery for two old inkpots and an old stone jar, a backdrop which I shall be using for further still life paintings that I’m working on. There is nothing finer to concentrate the mind than a still life painting, especially with the light and cast shadows which can only define the shape. Strange and fascinating how you can give life to inanimate objects.
