‘Portrait of a Galloway Bull’

The Galloway is one one of the oldest and purest of our native cattle breeds and the world’s longest established breeds of beef cattle, named after the Galloway region of Scotland, where it originated during the17th century.

This commissioned painting along with other breeds of cattle is to hang in a Country Inn.

Comment from Richard Drake. 9 September 2017

This is the picture I commissioned for my dad’s birthday, the picture here doesn’t do it justice, Derek’s work is superb the detail is fantastic and my dad is very happy with it, we had a wonderful trip to Derek’s gallery to pick the picture up, his other work on display is fantastic and worth a visit if you want to check out his work before commissioning a picture or just looking for something for that empty spot on a wall

Commissions welcome any subject for 2018. Please click here

‘Highland Cattle Watering’ Wester Ross Scotland Oil on canvas 24 x 36 ins

This oil on canvas was commissioned by a client who has purchased and commissioned a number of paintings from me. Ed, a retired farmer, is keen on game fishing and most years travels to Scotland and fishes for Salmon. The scene in the painting is the River Gruinard which is on the West Coast, it is this stretch of river that is one of Ed’s favourite haunts.

‘Cattle Watering’ Brothers Water, Lake District.

'Cattle Watering'.Brothers Water. Lake District

Brothers Water, in full sunshine, is situated in Ambleside near Patterdale in the Lake District. They say it always rains in the Lake District, on this occasion it was a beautiful hazy sunny day. This painting, I think, epitomises what is a quintessential English landscape scene. With the privilege of artists licence, cattle were added to give life to the scene.
