Charcoal and pencil portrait drawing

This is Phil who arrived in and now lives in my village. I first met up with Phil in my local pub and have since become good mates.

Another lesson in my dormant drawing skills and my latest drawing which I have added to a seperate page on my website, a lesson in light and shade where the use of colour is eliminated and where a black and white study stands on its own without being held together by colour.

‘Jaffy’ the Wire Haired Fox Terrier’

I posted this painting of Jaffy to Canada just before Christmas a gift to the clients Mother and received this message recently;

Hi Derek…

My mom was delighted with the picture.  The detail is amazing, and his expression which is so key to a wire fox terrier is perfect.  The colour is spot on, including the black shading around his ears.  It’s wonderful how the coat texture is so clear, including the waves on his beard, and even the little wispy bits.  My mom declared it to be the “best Christmas gift ever”!  Oh…..one other thing, Jaffy’s registered name is Brocolitia Make Me Proud.   He was actually born with in England and exported to Canada at 6 months.

Thank you so much!
