‘Vèroniques Windowsill’

This painting was completed some time ago and was a pivotal point in my career. I have a Limited Edition print which is available on my site, if interested please click here. As well as being a turning point in what I was attempting to achieve with my painting, it turned out to be a bittersweet lesson in life.

‘Egremont Russet’

'Egremont Russet's' Oil on canvas 5 x 7 ins

‘Egremont Russet’ Oil on canvas 5 x 7 ins

These small fruit studies make charming paintings and have proven to be popular amongst collectors. There are over 1200 varieties of English Apple, they have enchanting names:  Acklam Russet, Barnack Beauty, Nutmeg Pippin, Knobby Russet…and many more.

The inspiration for these paintings stems from the stylised fruit that I was trained to paint during my time working for Coalport China.

Studies, such as these ‘Egremont Russet’ which I paint today, have much more realism, I have a grower of various varieties of apple locally and can set them up in the studio for working from life.

There is no substitute for observation than working from nature, nature being our greatest teacher.

After seeing my work on my website I received a contact form and was commissioned to paint this picture with the following brief.

Hello We have often admired your paintings. We have two gold coloured ornate frames. The measurements being. Overall frame size 39cm H by 34cm W Canvas View size 29cm H by 24cm W Rear fitting size 30.5cm H by 25.5cm W The pictures are for a dining room. 1) Picture of grapes, plumbs and a wine glass on a rustic table or cheese board. 2) Picture of a brace of shot pheasants draped over a country house chair with shot gun leaning against it. In both cases we would be open to suggestions. We would be interested in whether or not this is something you would consider doing. We accept that charges would be dictated by time and detail going into each picture but a rough idea of price would be helpful. This would help us decide if this is the route to go. Kind regards Eddy
